At Lone Star, we strive to be as environmentally friendly and carbon neutral as possible. Organic breathable and VOC-free Auro and Aglaia paints, soft natural Thermafleece sheepswool acoustic and thermal insulation, pure wool carpets, AAA+ and A efficiency rated appliances, organic vegetable and herb kitchen gardens (with our own composting), a bio-active septic system and an organic native meadow wildlife habitat / sanctuary with a restful pond are but a few of the features of our commitment to ecology first at Lone Star.

We are a committed member of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), Garden Organic, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), Scottish Wildlife Trust, and Scottish Green Tourism as well as numerous professional culinary societies which set the standards for our environmental and culinary excellence.

Also, as stargazing enthusiasts and dedicated new members of the International Dark-Sky Association, we encourage you to hone your night vision skills at Lone Star and help us appreciate and conserve the beauty of the night skies for one and all.  Did you know that if all the lights in the world were turned off for one night, we could view the night skies as our ancestors saw them.

Ecology first
Public Areas

The Lone Star fireplace sitting room, walled gardens and preservation meadow may be used by guests during both day and evening.

The Lone Star fireplace sitting room offers a library for your perusal, and "The Big Scottish Basket" provides travel guides, ordinance survey maps, pamphlets for area villages/castles/historic sites, information on local artists/craftspeople and booking information for special boat and nature trips and other Fife attractions.

Sit indoors or out and enjoy afternoon tea, have a glass of wine, read, explore the garden areas, or simply take in the afternoon sunshine and crisp Scottish air anywhere on (or off) the property.  As Scotland has no law of trespass, you are free to roam around area farms and meadows at your leisure, under Scottish law, being mindful of private household gardens and growing crops.

Board games, cards, bird watching binoculars and other brain teasers complete your selection for self entertainment and relaxation at day’s end.

A wood-burning fire pit on the stone patio is yours for the asking to warm cool Scottish evenings while you enjoy a cocktail or mug of rich hot chocolate. The sunset and evening views from Lone Star across the neighbouring farmlands are lovely, and rich sapphire and peach skies typify our summer evening light. The clear night skies are twinkling with bright constellations and a myriad of stars.
