The gorgeous 6th century university town of St. Andrews, renowned for being the true home of golf, is chock full of exciting attractions, tours, historic sites and merchants.

St. Andrews is also fortunate to be situated close to the stunning views from Lomond Hills (Fife’s highest point), and the Eden Estuary, a local nature reserve with EU, regional and local designations which is internationally renowned for it habitat, in particular birds, seals, dunes and the tidal basin.

We have selected a few helpful and informative local links for your perusal to prepare for your trip to this unique former capital of The Kingdom of Fife:

Dining Out

Despite its relatively small size, St Andrews offers an impressive choice of restaurants and eating places.

We are happy to arrange your dinner reservation. Please be aware of the serving hours; most kitchens close for service by 9 pm.

Our favourite simple place to grab lunch or dinner is The Dining Room, Fife’s most delicious (and varied) Chinese food… and remember the chocolate crepe for dessert! For freshest seafood with a French/modern European twist in a stunning glass house with bay views, don’t miss the exclusive The Seafood Restaurant in St. Andrews (or St. Monans). On South Street, The West Port is a modern, airy pub with fish and chips (and other refined pub food) to die for. Rural Peat Inn is known for its French cuisine and a sterling wine cellar, and the rural Grange Inn, situated in a charming 17th century inn overlooking the bay, caters for the modern and traditional Scottish tastes. Ogstons on North Street houses a comfortable pub/bar and a newly renovated hamburgers-to-cool-Scottish-fare restaurant with reasonable pricing.

If your are out and about driving, take a quick jaunt for Indian food over to Fife’s capital Cupar and try Armaan for some of the world’s best Bangladeshi curry, eat in or call for takeout. And if you tour the seaside harbour villages, don't miss The Cocoa Tree in Pittenweem: artistically presented luscious foods, heavenly hot chocolate and a selection of chocolates to keep your strength up while you wander.

Fancy an espresso while shopping or after dinner coffee? Visit the hip yet quaint Taste Coffee Shop on North Street which offers the best in town. And if you are a Starbucks addict, never fear, just head over to Market Street for your fix. Around the corner down Bell Street lies an innocuous storefront aptly named Gorgeous. Discover delicious snacks, sandwiches, hot dogs, ice cream and desserts (heavenly chocolate cake) for eating in the tiny upstairs cafe or for taking away.

End your evening on a cosy note in one of St Andrews' many bars: hit the Dunvegan (a must for Texas Aggies!) for a cold brew after a hot round of golf, or later for an authentic Scottish feel try the intimate fireplace bar at the Russell Hotel.

Scotland has very strict drink drive laws; after imbibing, please take one of the many reasonable, clean and convenient taxicabs. A small price to pay for your safety and relaxation.
